Executive Team Profiles

Ernst-Ulrich Maas

President/CEO

Ernst is both a fixed wing and helicopter pilot with 50 years (12,800 hours helicopter and 4,400 hours fixed wing flying experience), both throughout Canada and also internationally. He has also worked in aviation management since the 1980’s with Abu Dhabi Aviation (helicopters/UAE), Air Hart (fixed wing/Kelowna BC) and Transmaldivian Airways (fixed wing/Republic of the Maldives) and of course Transwest Helicopters (helicopters/ Chilliwack & Oliver BC). He and his wife Alison have successfully owned and operated Transwest Helicopters Ltd since 2004.

Garth Ramsay

General Manager

Transwest Helicopters Ltd is very pleased to announce the return of Garth Ramsay to our company as General Manager. Garth previously worked for Transwest from 1997-2007 as DOM/Operations Manager/QA/SMS Program Manager, then left to pursue an overseas opportunity in Australia for several years.

Garth, TCCA AME, FAA A&P, Australian AME and PNG AME qualified, has over 25 years industry experience, especially in the areas of field engineering, component overhaul and general helicopter management. He has industry approved training in Sikorsky S-61, Bell 214B, 212, 206B helicopters.

Doug Maki

Director of Maintenance

Doug has over 35 years of all-round experience in extensive refurbishment of Bell 206 series, 407, 204, 205, 212, 212 ‘S’, 214, 412, Airbus 350 series and MDHI 500 helicopters. He has been working with Transwest in Oliver as 212/412 Production Manager since 2015. In addition he has gained Sales, QA and Safety Program Management experience over the course of his lengthy career.

Jeff Brown

Alternate QA/Safety Program Manager

Jeff has worked for Transwest Helicopters Ltd since 1997 and has over 45 years flying experience, predominantly within the helicopter industry. He was until recently our Chief Pilot and Operations Manager, as well as Safety Program Manager, however Transwest is not currently operating its own helicopters. Jeff is still responsible for ground or flight testing customer machines as required. His extensive international flying experience and 17+ years of service with Transwest Helicopters are invaluable company assets.

Aubrey Smith

Component Shop Manager

Aubrey completed his BCIT AME “M” course in 2002. After 1 year apprenticeship in the field working for a logging operation, he moved into the component shop overhauling Bell 212, and Bell 214 dynamic and hydraulic components. After 7 years in a Bell shop (managing the shop for 3 years), he went on to a Sikorsky overhaul shop to work on S76 dynamic components. In January of 2012 Aubrey attended the Bell Training Academy, DFW for the 412 component overhaul training course. He now has 13 years of experience in the aviation field, with 12 years focused on component overhaul.
